PROVENANCE MERLOT 2018, NAPA VALLEY, CALIFORNIA $17.99 (MIXED) This Merlot is selected from some of Provenance’s finest vineyards in Napa Valley (such as Oakville), which adds dark fruit, a dense texture, and a flinty finish. Provenance also sources grapes from Oak Knoll, which brings ripe red and blue fruit, spice and a focused acidity due to the deeper soils and older vines. With several vineyards, this producer enhances their Merlot’s elegant, fruit-forward flavors. This structured, fruit-forward, 100% Merlot showcases ripe blueberry and plum flavors, accompanied by layers of herbal spice. Pair with seared flank steak or drink on its own!
FINCA TORREMILANOS, ‘MONTECASTRILLO’ 2023, RIBERA DEL DUERO, SPAIN $18.99 Founded in 1903, the 200-hectare Finca Torremilanos in Aranda de Duero is the second-oldest wine-producing estate in what is now Ribera del Duero DO (after Vega Sicilia). This wine hails from the first-ever Demeter-certified biodynamic winery in the appellation (as of 2015); a family-run gem that marches to the beat of its own drummer in producing both traditionally-styled and experimental wines. This wine is a 100% biodynamically-grown Tempranillo from the estate’s younger vines and fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel. Opening with vibrant dark fruit, white pepper and spice on the nose, the wine is bold and fresh with a long, lengthy finish that is complemented well by rice dishes.
GALACTICA, CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2024, MAULE VALLEY, CHILE $12.99 (MIXED) A dynamic red that brings out the essence of Chilean terroir with polish winemaking techniques, sourced from three distinctive vineyards in the heart of the Maule Valley, a region known for its granitic soils, cool coastal influences, and stable climate. This vibrant blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Syrah, aged in a combination of stainless steel and neutral oak barrels shows notes of dark cherry, plumbs and rhubarb with hints of cigar box, clove, eucalyptus and leather. Undertones of blackberry, dark chocolate, ripe currants and baking spice come through on the finish. The oak is well integrated leading to a well balanced, fruit driven wine with soft tannins on the finish. Pair with grilled meat and portobello mushroom skewers.
VILLA MATILDE AGLIANICO 2019, CAMPANIA, ITALY $16.99 When you hear wine described in classic literature, this is how you can imagine it would taste. A wine made from very old Aglianico vines, some grown over 50 years ago, this wine is made in a tradition that had largely disappeared until the early 1960’s. This selection features a brilliant red color with violet hues as well as an intense and persistent aroma of spices, blackberries, and ripe red fruit. On the palate is a tight flavor intensity with candied notes, ripe black plum, and blueberry which rides on top of white pepper, vanilla, baking spice, smoke, and volcanic ash. This is a distinctly dry wine with medium acid and high-chalky tannins. Pairs well with pepperoni pizza, spaghetti puttanesca, Italian salami, or just a good book!
VENTISQUERO RISERVA PINOT NOIR 2023, CASABLANCA VALLEY, CHILE $15.99 (MIXED) Ventisquero Wine Estates own vineyards across all of Chile’s main wine-producing regions, focusing on sustainability, innovation and passion. Each wine produced is a unique expression of the character of the grape and region, and the Reserve Pinot Noir is no exception. This wine has an elegant bouquet, predominated by fresh red berries such as strawberries and raspberries, intermingled with soft spicy notes and a hint of vanilla contributed by the maturation in French oak. This refreshing, delicate-bodied wine has good acidity and smooth tannins, which give it a fresh, silky mouthfeel. Persistent in the finish, in which notes of fresh red fruit, vanilla and spices are again apparent. Pair with salmon or spiced poultry.
PARALLELE 45 COTES DU RHONE 2022, RHONE, FRANCE $14.99 A classic since 1950, Parallèle 45 is celebrated around the globe and is one of France’s most recognizable wines. Parallèle 45 is named after the 45th parallel, a famous circle of latitude that marks the midpoint between the equator and the North Pole. The Grenache, Syrah, Carignan, Mourvèdre, and Marselan grapes for Parallèle 45 are farmed organically. Deep garnet red in color, this fruit-forward wine has notes of strawberry, raspberry and spices with good balance and supple tannins. Pair with Lasagna, Mediterranean vegetables, or fondant au chocolate.
