CUEVE DE LOBOS, VIURA 2024, RIOJA ALTA, SPAIN $15.99 Cueva de Lobos are the first line from Bodegas Javier San Pedro Ortega, being modern, contemporary and pleasure-driven wines that are made to charm and seduce. With only modern and quality wines in mind, Javier completely separates himself from the classic, old(er) Rioja style. One of the rising stars in the world of quality wines (you heard it first here)! This wine is bright light yellow color with a fresh, lively nose giving impressions of delicate yellow fruit and yellow blossom. On the palate, the mild flavour of the Viura is perfectly supported by a fine touch of acidity. The finish is medium-long and simply appetizing. This wonderfully fresh style is perfect as an aperitif or on a sunny terrace. Delicious with seafood, fish carpaccio, salads or risotto.
KRASNO, SAUVIGNONASSE 2023, GORISKA BRDA, SLOVENIA $16.99 (MIXED) This grape is best known as Friulano across the border in Friuli, Italy. The Slovenians, however, call it Sauvignonasse (unrelated to Sauvignon Blanc). Goriška Brda has a good diurnal swing because it gets warm breezes from the Adriatic, as well as cold winds from the Alps. The winery is named after the town of Krasno, located about two miles east of Italy, with steep vineyards producing excellent fruit. Krasno is a co-op, owned by 400 wine-growing families, and producing wines for 50 years. This wine is aged in stainless steel featuring flavors of lemon, green apple, pine needles, and a hint of salinity. Pair with ceviche, butter-poached shrimp, or even asparagus (a famously difficult to pair item)!
LA TORRE DI VEGLIA, PINOT GRIGIO 2024, FRUILI, ITALY $12.99 This wine is sourced from a single estate in Friuli, high quality grapes separating this wine from the rest of its kind (which shows in the rich flavors immediately apparent on the first sip). The wine is made in a dry and authentic style with enjoyable aromas of white flowers, orchard fruits, yellow peach, and citrus. On the palate the wine is crisp and clean with a good balance of fruit ripeness and freshness. This is a great aperitivo with snacks like prosciutto, mild cheeses, or seafood salads. Great with fish, grilled chicken breast or chicken salad.
CASA ROJO, LA GABACHA SAUVIGNON BLANC 2021, RUEDA, SPAIN 16.99 (MIXED) 100% organic Sauvignon Blanc from D.O. Rueda, Spain! This wine is a vibrant reflection of its origin, fermented at low temperatures and aged on its fine lees for 5 months to preserve all its aromatic richness. Visually, it presents a straw yellow color with steely nuances and golden edges, clean and transparent. On the nose, it features an intense range of aromas: from stone fruit notes like apricot and peach to subtle citrus and herbaceous touches characteristic of the varietal. On the palate, it's a dry, elegant, and vibrant wine with a refreshing acidity that makes it memorable. Ideally served with seafood, hence the label!
LIBRANDI, CIRO BIANCO 2023, SICILY, ITALY $14.99 This wine is made from 100% Greco Bianco, a white variety brought to Calabria by the ancient Greeks. After a soft pressing, the must is fermented in stainless steel tanks to preserve its freshness. Brilliant lemon-green in color, aromas of peaches and citrus fruits complement undertones of herbs and flowers. On the palate, zesty acidity and a long finish showcase this wine's subtle hints of toasted almonds and macadamia nuts. This is a fresh, fruity and pleasant white that brings along echoes of summer as we begin to feel Atlanta’s autumnal shift. Pair with roasted chicken as well as cheeses like mozzarella and ricotta.
PIEVALTA, ‘TRE RIPE’ VERDICCHIO DEI CASTELLI DI JESI 2023, LE MARCHE, ITALY $16.99 (MIXED)
The alchemical symbol emblazoned on the label means “spring,” indicating the freshness of this 100% Verdicchio. In the winery’s commitment to excellence, all Pievalta wines have been certified Biodynamic since 2008. Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi, where this wine is grown, boasts a microclimate well suited for lighter and fresher Verdicchio expression. Clay and limestone amplify the minerality and freshness of fruit’s character, and on the palate this wine features a fresh streak of citrus lime and lime, accompanied by the telltale Verdicchio “almond” note. Nothing goes better with this wine than Mexican fare, particularly shrimp tacos (take it from us)!
