JOÃO PORTUGAL RAMOS, VILA SANTA VINHO TINTO 2024, ALENTEJO, PORTUGAL $14.99 João Portugal Ramos is Portugal’s most famous winemaker. Before he began making his own wines, he was a pioneering wine consultant, he almost single-handedly opened Portuguese winemaking to the benefits of modern winemaking. In 1990, he decided it was time to start creating his own wine and he began planting vineyards near the ancient marble-filled town of Estremoz in Alentejo, where the schist and limestone-clay soil, combined with the region’s Continental climate, create ideal conditions for growing grapes. This wine is a blend of traditional red varieties from this region; such as Aragonês, Trincadeira, and Castelão. It is a firm red with deep, complex flavors, showing a blend of red and black fruits and hints of fresh herbs.
LAS PIZARRAS, ‘FABLA $506’ GARNACHA/SYRAH 2023, CALATAYUD, SPAIN $18.99 (MIXED) Las Pizarras Fabla #506 is a wine from Calatayud, a small appellation in Aragon, Spain, known as the birthplace of the Garnacha grape. The region’s rugged slate soils, steep slopes, and extreme weather conditions come together to profoundly enhance the quality of the grapes. The name “Fabla” originates from a language spoken in northern Aragon for over a thousand years, yet only about 12,000 people use it today. It embodies a rich heritage of culture and traditions. The number 506 refers to the tank that held the blend for this exquisite wine. A bold red, loaded with ripe mulberry, boysenberry and plum fruit, accompanying aromatics of rosemary, anise, graphite and black peppercorn. A perfect grilling companion!

A unique blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Shiraz and 15% of South Africa’s unique Pinotage rounding it out. In 100 years this won’t surprise anyone.” His namesake red blend is a bold, juicy red wine that combines almost equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and Merlot. This rich blend showcases spellbinding aromas and flavors of plum, cherry, molasses, brown sugar, and subtle citrus notes. It’s a crowd-pleasing wine with rich red and black fruit, a touch of sweet oak, and a hint of baking spices. The wine is versatile, ideal for enjoying on its own or paired with grilled meats.
TENUTA RAPITALÀ, ‘ALTO REALE’ NERO D’AVOLA 2024, SICILY, ITALY $18.99 Rapitalà, much like Sicily itself, is a mosaic of influences that comes together to create its unique identity. A marriage of Sicilian soul and French know-how, Rapitalà showcases the power and personality of Sicilian terroir with an elegant, French winemaking style. The nose opens umami, sanguine and earthy, with damp soil, pepper and mixed wild herbs, then presents sweet, tiny wild berries crushed underfoot.
