REDS:

  • DOMAINE LES TUILERIES, PINOT NOIR 2023, CÉVENNES, FRANCE $15.99  Domaine Les Tuileries Pinot Noir is a fresh, sustainably farmed red wine from the Cévennes region in Languedoc, France. It features aromas of raspberry, cherry, and earth with a spicy finish. This light-to-medium-bodied wine pairs well with poultry, grilled dishes, and cheeses.
  • MELINI, CHIANTI ‘BORGHI D’ELSA’ 2022, TUSCANY, ITALY $14.99 The Melini Winery dates back to 1705 and is one of the Chianti region’s oldest and most historic wineries. Today Melini owns 556 hectares in the Chianti and Chianti Classico district. This Chianti is sourced from select vineyard sites in the heart of Chianti along the south-facing slopes of the Elsa River. The vineyards line the river on well-exposed hillsides that reach elevations of over 1,200 feet, with a blend of alberese, marl, and limestone soils.Borghi D’Elsa has intense, fragrant and elegant aromas of blackberries and raspberries, with violet and Florentine iris notes. On the palate, the taste is dry, full, harmonious and slightly tannic, with an elegant aftertaste of toasted almond and fruits of the forest. Mixed grilled meats, prized poultry dishes, lamb, goat meat, sheep’s milk cheese.
  • CHATEAU BOUSQUETTE, ‘MAS DES HUPPES’ 2022, SAINT-CHINIAN, FRANCE $17.99 One of those estates that has been farmed since ancient times, it was under Church management until the Revolution in 1789. Since then it has been under the care of a succession of wine-makers, until 1996 when Eric and Isabelle Perret, a Swiss couple, fell in love with the area and the vineyard and purchased it. They were early adopters of what we now call biodynamic principles: maintaining a healthy biosphere to allow nature to work to its greatest potential. This is why the French have no real word for ‘wine-maker’, they believe they are shepherds of a natural process as opposed to direct manipulators. This can be seen in their red wine, a blend of Grenache, Syrah and Cinsault, it is aromatic with bursts of ripe black cherry, fresh herbs and wild lavender, the palate is juicy and expressive with soft tannins, savory minerality and a clean, lifted finish.

WHITES:

  • RIFF, PINOT GRIGIO DELLE VENEZIE 2024, ALTO ADIGE, ITALY $12.99 The Riff project is an innovative initiative initiated in 2002 by the esteemed Alto Adige producer Alois Lageder, designed to explore the broader potential of the Tre Venezie area. The name ‘Riff’ (German for reef) pays homage to the ancient limestone and dolomite fossil reefs that form the geologic foundation of the region’s best vineyards. Lageder has built his internationally acclaimed reputation by flipping the expected script of Pinot Grigio as light-weight lemon-water by producing exceptionally complex yet balanced versions of this noble varietal; offering bright, pure orchard fruit, surprising textural weight, and a vibrant, stony minerality.
  • FONCALIEU, PIQUEPOUL NOIR ROSE 2025, LANGUEDOC, FRANCE $16.99 Foncalieu might be a behemoth cooperative, with over 800 members producing 16 million bottles of wine each year from over 30 grape varieties, but this rose is one of their more unique and small scale productions. Though only 250 acres of this rare grape remain, Piquepoul Noir has been grown in southern France for centuries. It is originally from the Languedoc and is one of the 13 grapes permitted in Châteauneuf du Pape. Foncalieu’s is sourced from one grower’s five-acre hillside vineyard in the village of Cazouls. Pale pink, the wine is pretty, vivacious and expressive, with wild strawberries on the nose. In the mouth the grape’s natural acidity gives this a vibrancy that keeps it fresh and alive. It offers plenty of red fruit and a twist of lime on the considerable length – but it is never ‘flabby’ or overdone but remains remarkably well-balanced. A perfect companion to spiced, middle easter kebabs.
  • LAPIS LUNA, SAUVIGNON BLANC 2024, NORTH COAST, CALIFORNIA $15.99  Established in 1999, Lapis Luna produces exceptional value wines from undiscovered California vineyards. Each label is a rendition of a 400 year old copperplate engraving showing a faceless hero reaching for the moon. The color is almost clear with a golden glow. The nose is tropical fruit, peach and pear, melon, lime, apple, and soft spice, while lightly floral. The acidity is balanced and gives this wine decent length. A perfect aperitif wine, it wouldn’t mind being turned into a spritzer on a particularly sweltering sunny afternoon.
