Although famed for red, white wines have a long heritage in the southern Rhône valley, where the locals enjoy an occasional glass at the start of a warm evening. Made from traditional southern Rhône varieties: Grenache Blanc, Viognier, and Roussanne. It is fresh, medium-bodied; the nose is pretty and delicate, with a waft of fennel and hints of white flowers. The palate is nuanced and refined rather than overt. A lovely apéritif, well matched with lighter fare: grilled asparagus or a goats cheese roquette salad. Fish and chicken are a perfect partner; especially grilled halibut or cod, or creamy chicken dishes such as Poulet à l’Estragon (chicken in a tarragon wine sauce).
