Hello Everyone!

The La Cartuja Priorat has been one of our most requested wines for two years now!  We first featured the 2010 in our Half Case Wine Club, and the 2011 was one of our top selling wines of the year!

To date, I don’t believe this wine has received less than a 90 point review, and the 2011 landed a 93 point score from Wine Advocate.

I just tried the 2012, and believe it’s consistent with the other vintages, and will really blossom in 6 months!  Unfortunately, the wine will be long gone by then!

Tasting Notes:

Like in years past the blend is 70% Garnacha and 30% Carignan, and the winery only makes this single cuvee.  Oak treatment is restrained as a blend of large and small French oak barriques are used, only a portion of which is new.  It’s not a fruit bomb right now, and has some really nice Rhone-ish floral aromas as well.

Again, this wine has a uniquely high intensity for the price point, but it’s balanced and very drinkable, and really doesn’t require long term cellaring.  Although we’re seeing more affordable bottlings from Spain’s Priorat region (just southwest of Barcelona), it’s rare to find one this impressive for $16.99!

Thanks as always!
