2009 Selvapiana Bucerchiale Chianti Rufina Riserva

95 Points Stephen Tanzer

Selvapiana Bucerchiale bottle shot

We recently tasted a Chianti Riserva that blew us a way.  This one immediately got everyone excited, and 20 six-packs available. That’s it!

Rated 95 Points by Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar, the 2009 Selvapiana Bucerchiale Chianti Rufina Riserva was so beautifully balanced, we couldn’t believe how well it was drinking!

This wine kept calling us back, and the few people who tasted it at the shop were impressed as well!

Located in the Chianti Rufina Zone, Fattoria Selvapiana boasts 5 generations of winemaking talent, and lies just East of Florence in Tuscany.  Made from 100% Sangiovese, the Bucerchiale bottling is made from a single vineyard with vines approaching 45 years in age.  Color extraction is very good, and the wine undergoes further aging in French oak barrels of varying size for 15 months.

I’m including the written review because my impressions were similar, and I think it’s rather eloquently summarized!

From Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar – 95 Points

“Medium saturated red. Red plum, redcurrant, tobacco, forest floor and potpourri spices on the sexy, very complex nose. Dense, sweet, suave and deep, with insidious intensity to the multilayered flavors of blueberry, tobacco leaf and loam. Wonderfully silky and sweet Chianti, finishing with fine-grained tannins and lingering ripe red cherry and spice flavors. The 2009 vintage doesn’t get any better than this. An outstanding wine, and everything a Chianti ought to be”
