Made From Organically Farmed Grapes!

Vizcarra Grapes

Made from Organically farmed grapes, this is a great example of how Spain is re-shaping it’s wine style, particularly in the Ribera del Duero region! Modern, fresh, and still bold, this wine is built to impress.

Background on Vizcarra and the Ribera del Duero Region:Started by Juan Carlos Vizcarra in 1991, everything produced from the winery is estate grown, and vines are 24 years old on average. Concentrated dark fruits combined with a limited exposure to oak give this wine the potency of tempranilo without overt oak flavors.  Ribera Del Duero lies just Southwest of Rioja in central Spain and is home to some of Spain’s most famous bottlings such as Vega Sicilia and Pingus.

Tempranillo from this region is typically paired with Grilled Pork or Lamb, and I think this bottling could easily be paired with BBQ as well!

This is the strongest review this wine has received as Robert Parker awarded it 93 points.  I’ve included the review below.

From the August 2012 Review – 93 points

The 2011 Vizcarra Roble, 100% Tempranillo from organic vineyards, was aged seven months in both French and American oak. Its deep ruby/purple color is followed by a sumptuous nose of blackberries, new saddle leather, licorice, camphor and crushed rocks. With a superb texture and full-bodied mouthfeel, and built like a skyscraper, this multidimensional Ribera del Duero is already drinking fabulously well. It should continue to do so for up to a decade
