Beautiful All Purpose Rhone Red!

Beautiful All-Purpose Red from the Group that brings us Banshee Wines!

This a great red blend from the Cotes du Rhone area of Southern France that is perfect for casual affairs or special events!  Brought to us from the same group that owns Banshee Wines, the Terra Sanctus is interesting, honest, and modestly priced at $12.99!  No scores or other fanfare, just a perfectly drinkable grenache-based red wine.

Background:  Plan de Dieu Appellation in the Cotes du Rhone

The Plan de Dieu appellation is relatively new to the Cotes du Rhone as its status was only granted AOC status 2005. Plan de Dieu roughly translates to Plains of God, and the appellations states that the grenache grape must be blended with a minimum of 20% syrah. The soil in unique for it’s limestone pebbles, not unlike those found in the Chateauneuf-du-Papes Appellation.

Tasting Notes:

The Terra Sanctus is a blend of 60% Grenache and 40% Syrah, and comes from 30-50 year old vines.  All vinification takes place in concrete vats, allowing the natural blue fruits and peppery aromas to show through.  This isn’t one to decant with a lot of pomp and circumstance, but just solid drinking red wine!
