2011 Alain Patriarche “La Monatine” Chardonnay – Beautiful White Burgundy! – Under $25 after discounts!

During last week’s Burgundy Tasting, one of the stand-out wines was the2011 Alain Patriarche “La Monatine” Chardonnay.  This is a single vineyard wine from a vineyard near the famed village of Meursault.

This has everything going for it, including a very modest price!

Background: Domaine Alain Patriarche

Alain Patriarch’s family has been making wine in Meursault since 1830, and though Alain sadly passed away last year, the tradition is continuing with the 7th generation.  I feel lucky to have spent a day with Alain when I visited Burgundy last year as he was absolutely uncompromising in his believe that the chardonnay of vines of Meursault are the best in Burgundy!

The Vineyard:

The Monatine vineyard lies within 30 feet of the village of Meursault in Burgundy’s Cotes du Beaune region.  The parcel owned by Domaine Patriarche is 40 years in age, and shares many of the characteristics that are classically associated with Village level Meursault….Toast, almond, pears and great acidity!  This wine spends time in older oak barrels to round-out the edges. Around 800 cases were produced.

At $25.99 per bottle, this white burgundy is hard to beat!
